New Range Rover Sport To Offer Mild-Hybrid Engine

Range Rover Mild Hybrid

Land Rover is set to introduce a mild-hybrid engine to its Range Rover and Range Rover Sport later this year.

Having already added the new Evoque and the Discovery Sport to its growing mild-hybrid range, the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are next on the list to join the line of increasingly environmentally friendly offerings by Land Rover.

The current range of engines gives the Range Rover Sport its breathtaking performance, each of them optimised for differing needs and all equipped with Stop/Start technology and smart battery charging while decelerating to reduce fuel consumption. Current engine options for the Range Rover Sport include a 254 BHP 3.0 litre V6 Turbocharged Diesel, a 3.0 litre V6 340/380 BHP Supercharged Petrol engine or the high performance 518 BHP 5.0 litre V8 Supercharged Petrol engine, which is exclusive to the SVR Sport.

The mild-hybrid engine, a 296bhp 3.0-litre MHEV unit, will be offered on the HSE, Dynamic, and Autobiography Dynamic model lines. A more powerful 345bhp version of that same engine will be available in higher-end Range Rover specs such as HST, effectively replacing the current 4.4-litre v8 diesel engine. The same two engines will also be added to the full-size Range Rover.

The new mild-hybrid option will show a significant improvement in power for the Range Rover Sport, boasting 516lb ft of torque, a 0-62mph time of 6.5 seconds and a top speed of 140mph. These figures are all a marked improvement on the v8 diesel engine, and will also see an increase in miles-per-gallon and a reduction in CO2 emissions.

The Range Rover Sport hybrid will have the advantage of being more environmentally friendly than the current offering, as well as more efficient and a smoother ride thanks to the new integrated starter-generator.

What else can we expect from the new and improved Range Rover Sport?

As with the current model, the New Range Rover Sport SUV will have the same visually striking design and dynamic look. With its distinctive silhouette, every aspect of the car’s exterior is designed for immediate impact, and the lightweight aluminium body delivers a perfect balance of agility, handling, and performance. Sleek, wraparound exterior LED lights are energy-efficient and designed to last the lifetime of the vehicle while mirroring daytime conditions to make driving at night less tiring.

The interior space has been meticulously designed for maximum comfort and well-being, as well as function. The modern feel is enhanced by such cutting-edge technology as the groundbreaking Touch Pro Duo infotainment system and the SportShift Selector gear lever, which provides the option of manual or automatic gear shifting.

Undoubtedly Range Rover’s most dynamic SUV, the new mild-hybrid range finds a way to improve upon excellence, enhancing power and performance with a more environmentally friendly option.
